Oh good question. I don't have experience with AA, but to me community is about commitment. When I commit to a group of people and they commit to me, we can begin to trust each other.

Marcus, any solid example of community will be similar to AA, or Christ's church (not necessarily the local congregation) - trust is an integral part of community, as are accountability and mercy and grace. Not telling you anything you don't already know :)

How I learned it was grace was God's unmerited favor towards us (or gift to us), and mercy is what we extend to others. Your mileage may vary, and I'm certain a schooled theologian may quibble (if not outright disagree), but it is how I learned to understand the terms.
