Great post. This is my first time here, and I'm hooked.

Re: Lives In The Balance

That is a very good post. :) I had played with the idea of registering as an Independent once upon a time. Then I noticed that most Independents were actually closet Republicans. I used to read a blog by a really great guy who was an Independent, but a former Democrat. Since he tended to be fair towards the Democrats and not quick to jump on the Republican bandwagon ... he was harassed on his blog regularly. He eventually stopped blogging altogether. It was a shame. Still is. I really liked his blog.

I am biased towards the Democrats. I come from a long line of them and have been one all my life. But, I am not afraid to call them on their dirt. I know when they are wrong and I will say so. Same with the Republicans. What bothers me most, I think, is that as a Democrat I don't claim that my party has some "divine" agenda or that we are God's Party. We aren't. The Democratic platform has it's good points and it's bad. Same with the Republican platform. But, you don't hear that from them. No ... they think that they have the ear of God.

For me, I can be pro-life and a Democrat. I can be against gay marriage and still be a Democrat. But, I can't be for Creation Care or for caring for the poor and be a Republican. Especially now that they have decided that God cares about those issues least of all.
